Yard Sale Saturday (Number 2)

Last Saturday I decided to start a repetitive subject post.   Yard sales, antique shops, consignment shops and related items.    I love them and nearly always find interesting things.   This morning I ran to the nearest yard sale and lo and behold - nothing I wanted and everything way too high.   But not to be outdone, I thought I would post a picture of what I found on trash day by the curb on my morning walk   I walk about 5 am and there is not much to do on the way other than enjoy the privacy of the day.   I do a lot of day dreaming.   Lo and behold I saw something interesting sitting on the sidewalk next to a bunch of trash cans.    Too far away to see for sure what it was but it looked like a lamp.   Generally lamps out on trash day don't work and aren't worth bringing home but occasionally I use the parts for assemblage arts.

I hate, repeat HATE, things that are still useful going into the land fills.    All our trash of that nature is hauled out of the keys to the Miami Dade land fills so in addition to the waste, we are spending $$$ in fuel costs.   I think that is a terrible mistake.   Make no mistake about it, my husband hates me hauling trash home; I don't mind at all.   Waste not, want not!

Here is the lamp.

Now you know that I am kinda dumpster diver.   Can't help it.  I have rewired a lot of lamps and it is a very easy procedure; one you should learn if you haven't done it.   I actually envision painting the base in a McKensie Childs manner with lots of bright colors and since I've never painted a lamp shade, might paint it too in harlequin.   Stay tuned.   When I bring something home and later decide it not something I want to keep - I donate it to either the Salvation Army or a group raising money for a worthy cause.   Either way, it works for me.

Maybe next week will yield great finds at the local yard sales.

Bling, Bling, and More Bling. Fun Day Jewelry Store

In February, I attended the Fun Day in Orlando and came home with another unfinished project.   I drug it all out a couple weeks ago and thought - I'll finish this.   Well, best laid plans etc.   I couldn't find one picture of a finished project so I posted a note on facebook and got pictures from Barb K, Nicole W. and Sheila L.   Mini friends are good friends.   Once I saw the pictures I finished my jewelry shop.

Lots of great stuff in this jewelry store.   Lots of Bling.   It was a great project with great exchange gifts.   And it is done!!!    I don't like unfinished projects hanging around.

Yard Sale (flea market, consignment shop, antique shop etc) Saturday

If you've been following this blog for any time at all, you know that I love yard sales, flea markets, consignment shops and antique shops or any variation of the above.    I am mulling over the idea of starting a regular posting every Saturday where we can post our finds.   Let me know by post, if you are interested in seeing this done and/or would you like to participate on it.

Today I found this very cute and love able Teddy Bear.   It has a little hidden compartment on the heart area where I or some small child could store their treasures.   The Ice Bucket with tongs will be used when I'm really feeling classy and the little jar with lid was just cute.   It was a very fun, although small crop of items, Yard Sale Saturday.

Fred Cobb's Workshop - Garden Shed 1/12 scale

In Sarasota in January I had an opportunity to take Fred Cobb's workshop.   I've seen several of his workshops and always end up in a time conflict.   I came home with an 'almost' finished building.   Dropped the building and had to make some repairs and finally got back to working on it last week.    Now I do believe this is a first for me.   Building finished and I don't have a clue what I want to make it into:   garden shed, art workshop, antique shop, man cave?    What would be your choices.   Leave a comment and let me know what you'd do with it.
I did not put on a solid roof because I hate not being able to see into a building.   It has a net lighting strip and makes every nook and cranny visible.

Let me hear from you.

May - Spring Porch scene quarter scale

I love 4 season themes.   A couple years ago I did a porch scene and did it for Summer.   You can see it HErE.    April I did a Halloween scene on the porch and you can see it HERE.   This month you can experience Spring.   There is always so much work in the spring.   Clean things up, plant flowers, bring out porch furniture.

My gardener has the flower bed all ready with fresh top soil to plant the flats of plants.   The big planters have tulips already coming up.   Furniture in place.   Water in the birdbath.   Soon, we can just enjoy the fruits of the labor.
